In updates she shared on her Instagram Stories, Melai explained that the decision to return home came from a mix of worry, urgency, and a desire to be physically present during a time of crisis.
She described how the situation pushed her to act quickly, while also recognizing that her ability to help was limited compared to larger government-led disaster response efforts.
“Kailangan kong umuwi para i-check din sina mama at mag-extend kami ng help sa abot lang ng makakaya ko, kasi hindi naman ako gobyerno para akuin lahat. Sa abot lang ng aking makakaya share ng help,” she said.

In a separate post on her feed, Melai shared photos showing the aftermath of the earthquake in General Santos City. The images captured damaged establishments and disrupted surroundings, offering a stark glimpse of how the strong tremor affected familiar places in her hometown.

“In Jesus Name tanggalin niyo na Lord ang mga aftershocks and sana Lord makabangon ang Mindanao labi na ang Gensan Lord sa paglindol na ito. Thank you sa lahat ng nangamusta sa pamilya ko, thank you Lord all safe sila and praying for all families na safe din sila. Panawagan na din po sa lahat ng gusto mag-help, need po ng more tents sa mga hospitals namin doon.”
