Kim Chiu recently took to X, formerly Twitter, to address criticism and online negativity surrounding people who choose to speak up about national issues and personal concerns.

Kim began her message by expressing sadness over how some people react negatively whenever opinions differ from their own. She pointed out that concern and criticism are often met with attempts to silence those who speak up.

“Nakakalungkot. That’s what happens when concern and opinion don’t align with them—gusto agad patahimikin.”

The actress and television host then shared that she has already become accustomed to receiving criticism and backlash whenever she expresses her thoughts publicly. Despite this, she maintained that she still has every right to speak as both a Filipino and a taxpayer.

“Nasanay na ako. Oo, Bisaya ko, pero Pilipino rin akong may karapatang magsalita at magpahayag ng saloobin.”

Kim also highlighted her frustrations as a citizen who faithfully pays taxes yet continues to witness issues that disappoint many Filipinos. Her statement reflected the sentiments of ordinary people who feel affected by the country’s ongoing political and social concerns.

“Masakit magbayad ng buwis tapos ganito ang nakikita natin.”

She went on to stress that ordinary citizens should not turn against one another, emphasizing that the public shares the same struggles and does not possess the same power or influence as government officials and powerful individuals.

“Hindi po tayo ang magkakalaban. Pare-pareho lang tayong mamamayan. Wala tayong kapangyarihang tulad nila, kaya sana dili mu mangaway oi (please don’t fight with each other).”

Toward the end of her message, Kim appealed for maturity and mutual respect despite differences in opinion. She urged people to simply allow others to express themselves freely instead of engaging in hostility online.
