Actor-singer James Reid has opened up about his decision to step away from acting for a period of time, as well as his highly anticipated return to television through the ABS-CBN series Someone, Someday alongside Kathryn Bernardo.

In an interview on SCENEZONE of DZRH News Television, Reid reflected on his hiatus, explaining that while he always intended to return to acting, he needed time to grow creatively and personally.

He shared that stepping back allowed him to explore other passions, particularly music, and gave him space to recharge:

“I always wanted to come back to acting, to TV, to film, but I needed to take a break for a while. I started so young so and I just wanted to just discover more, especially with music. I am really grateful I had that time to just breathe, and be creative, and try new things.”

Reid emphasized that his decision to return was not influenced by external pressures such as fame or project offers, but rather by a personal sense of readiness.

“When it came to acting, I think I just felt it was the right time. It was really not about the fame or the projects or anything. It was really just about me doing my best, and it felt like the right time to come back and try again.”

The actor also described his mindset as he re-enters the industry, highlighting humility and a willingness to keep learning as key parts of his journey.

“I think I am kind of just picking up where I left off. So I see myself as a student always, not just in acting but in life. I have so much things to learn in acting… For me, it is a very organic learning process too. It took a while for me to warm up to it again, but it feels like I never left.”

Reid’s comeback project has generated significant buzz among fans, particularly because it marks his first major television role after years of focusing on music and other creative ventures. The pairing with Bernardo has also sparked excitement, as it brings together two of the biggest names in Philippine entertainment from different career paths and fan bases.

James Reid is a multi-talented Filipino performer known for his work as an actor, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He first gained national recognition after winning Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash, which served as a launching pad for his career. He later starred in numerous successful films and television projects, many of which were alongside Nadine Lustre. Their tandem, popularly known as “JaDine,” became one of the most influential love teams of its time. Beyond acting, Reid expanded his influence in music by founding his own label, Careless, which aims to elevate Filipino artists on a global stage with a more independent sound.
