Matty, an alum of “Idol Philippines,” introduced himself to the judges as a 27-year-old Filipino who has been living in Glasgow, United Kingdom, for the past three years. He shared that he currently works as a part-time waiter while pursuing his dream in music.

During his introduction, Matty opened up about his motivation for joining the competition, revealing that he wanted to change the way he sees himself after past setbacks in singing contests. He previously competed in “Idol Philippines” in 2019, and his experience there became part of the reason he decided to audition for the popular UK talent show.

“I have been waiting for this chance to finally put an end to this long thing that I’ve been thinking about myself, that I will always be a singing competition loser,” he said.

For his audition, Matty performed a rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain,” delivering a performance that showcased the strength and range of his voice. His performance drew a standing ovation from the audience and impressed the judges, who praised his vocal ability and emotional delivery on stage.

Simon Cowell then shared his reaction to the performance.

“This, I think, is the biggest reaction we had from anyone,” judge Simon Cowell said, followed by him pressing the Golden Buzzer.

The Golden Buzzer is a special privilege given by the judges and hosts that automatically sends a contestant straight to the live shows, allowing them to skip the remaining audition rounds. With this, Matty moves one step closer to winning the competition and continues his journey in the international music scene.
