In her guest appearance on the Oh My Gan! podcast, Amy, now 56 years old, spoke openly about her transition into post-menopause and how it has become one of the most stable and peaceful phases of her life.
“I am in my post-menopause. Ibig sabihin, it’s been two years since I haven’t been getting my period. And I am in the best ‘panatag stage’ of my life,” she said.
While she now feels more grounded, Amy admitted that the years leading up to menopause—known as perimenopause—were particularly challenging.

“Before that was hard because may perimenopause, which is the five years before the said menopause. Sad to say, dito sa atin, sa Pilipinas, walang sapat na information regarding that,” she explained.
During that period, Amy experienced a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms that significantly affected her daily life. Among these were anxiety, mood swings, hot flashes, shoulder discomfort, itchy ears, acid reflux, inflammation, bloating, and even unusual sensations on her face.
“Ang una kong naranasan was ‘yung anxiety. Mood change. Sobra ang ano ko, para akong papunta na sa halimaw sa banga,” she recalled.
Her description highlighted how intense and overwhelming the changes were, especially without sufficient guidance or public awareness about what she was going through.
Amy emphasized that many women in the Philippines may be experiencing similar symptoms without fully understanding them, due to the lack of open conversations and accessible information about menopause and women’s health.
Her remarks resonated with many listeners, particularly women who have gone through or are currently going through similar stages. Amy’s openness also highlighted the importance of education and support systems for women navigating different phases of life, especially those that bring both physical and emotional changes.
