On Instagram Stories on Saturday, March 7, Erwan reposted Anne’s public statement addressing the lawmaker’s comments about her during a congressional hearing connected to impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The controversy began during the hearing when Suntay recounted an alleged encounter in which he claimed to have seen Anne at a mall. While narrating the story, he made a lewd remark about the actress, which quickly drew criticism after clips of the moment circulated online.
Later on Saturday, Anne officially broke her silence after her name had been “disgustingly used without my consent” during the hearing.

Anne explained that her decision to speak up was not motivated by a desire for retaliation or attention, but rather by a sense of responsibility. She emphasized that remaining silent would feel wrong, particularly for women who might be watching the situation unfold and for future generations who continue to face similar issues.
“Mr. Suntay, I won’t spend much time on you. Not because what you did was small, but because this was never really about you,” she stressed.
Anne further underscored that the issue goes beyond one individual and reflects a broader problem of how women are spoken about and treated.
“Now, what I will carry is the responsibility to say clearly, on behalf of every woman who has ever been spoken this way: We deserve better. Not just now, while this topic is a hot issue, but EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Not just from Mr. Suntay. From all of it,” she added.
In her statement, Anne also addressed the response coming from Suntay’s camp. While she rejected what she described as the lawmaker’s non-apology, she said she accepted the apology offered by his wife. Anne explained that she empathized with her, noting that as both a mother and a wife, she understands “exactly what she must be feeling.”
Anne concluded her post with a firm reminder of the broader significance of the conversation.
“And if anyone is wondering why Women's Month still matters - this is exactly why.”
Following the actress’ post, Erwan shared her statement on his own Instagram Stories, echoing her message and standing behind her as the controversy continues to draw attention online.

Recently, the congressman’s wife, Sheila Suntay, clarified that neither she nor her children approved of her husband’s remarks during the House hearing. She apologized to Anne and her family and denied reports that she laughed or agreed with him.
Meanwhile, Anne’s legal counsel, Gorriceta Africa Cauton & Saavedra, called the objectifying mention of her name during a hearing “clearly inappropriate and unacceptable.” They reminded public officials to uphold others’ dignity and said such remarks have no place, especially during National Women’s Month.
