His reaction came after Padilla’s statement during the Senate committee hearing on the proposed Children’s Safety in Social Media Act, where the senator compared the current generation with those who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s.
For Kuya Kim, the issue is deeply personal. His daughter, Emman Atienza, passed away last year at the age of 19 after years of battling mental health challenges, a loss that has made him a strong advocate for empathy, awareness, and accessible support for those who are struggling.
Robin Padilla, whose full name is Robinhood Ferdinand Cariño Padilla, first became famous as one of the most prominent action stars in Philippine cinema. He later entered public service and was elected Senator of the Philippines in 2022 after topping the senatorial race. He is married to Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla, and they have two daughters, Isabella and Gabriela. He also has children from previous relationships, including actress Kylie Padilla.
Earlier, Senator Robin Padilla said that many young people today appear more emotionally fragile compared to his generation and questioned the frequent use of the term “depression.” He remarked that during the 1980s and 1990s, mental health was rarely discussed and that the youth back then were tougher. The senator made these comments while opening a Senate hearing on proposed measures, including the Children’s Safety in Social Media Act.
