Kuya Kim Atienza became emotional during his interview on GMA’s Fast Talk With Boy Abunda as he opened up about the painful grief he continues to carry following the death of his daughter, Emman Atienza, who passed away at 19.

He shared that his grieving process remains unpredictable, with moments of calm suddenly interrupted by memories of his daughter. Kuya Kim described grief as something that “ambushes” him—one moment he feels okay, and the next he is overwhelmed by reminders of Emman’s face, their shared experiences, or small things that bring her to mind.

Despite the heaviness, Kuya Kim said he is slowly learning how to live with grief rather than overcome it. He acknowledged that the sorrow will remain a lifelong companion, but he hopes to walk alongside it with strength and faith. He admitted that losing Emman has left him more heartbroken than he has ever been in his entire life. Even so, he finds comfort in his belief that God is with him through the pain, trusting that everything happens for a divine purpose.

“It comes and goes eh. May mga araw na hindi ako okay, may mga araw na okay ako. Kumbaga, yung grief kasi parang ambush yan. Ngayon, okay ako biglang may maalala ako na ginawa namin ni Emman. Maalala ko yung mukha ni Emman or something that reminds me of Emman and then, it attacks you.

“My grief will stay with me all my life but I will learn to walk hand in hand with it…
“I’ve never been as broken as I am now. I’ve never been as heartbroken as I am now. Yet, despite the pain and despite the grief, I have peace that God is walking with me. I know nothing is an accident, this is all for a good purpose.”

He also became widely recognized as the resident weather presenter of TV Patrol, where his informative yet friendly delivery made him a household name. Aside from weather and science segments, Kuya Kim has hosted and appeared in numerous TV shows, showcasing his versatility and charisma. Earlier, former Manila Mayor and Buhay Party-list Representative Lito Atienza thanked everyone who offered condolences after the passing of his granddaughter, Emman Atienza. During a Facebook live, he expressed appreciation to friends, relatives, and supporters for their messages of comfort and prayers.
