Jake Zyrus offered a candid look into his journey of adapting to his deeper voice after transitioning from Charice Pempengco to Jake Zyrus, during a question-and-answer segment on his YouTube vlog. The singer, who also discussed his newly released EP Roots, responded to a fan asking whether singing now feels different with his voice having significantly changed over the years.

“In the beginning yes. It felt like I went through puberty all over again as a trans man,” Jake admitted. He explained that working on Roots made him realize how much his voice has stabilized, saying, “When I did this EP, I think there was a lot of realization na talagang na-feel ko na for some reason na ’yung technique na ginagamit ko kinda felt the same but again maybe my voice kinda stabilized now throughout the years.”
Jake added that while he has discovered new vocal techniques as a trans man, some of the methods he used before transitioning still feel familiar. “Yes and no, there are some new techniques that I discovered as a trans man but at the same time, I still feel some techniques that I used before,” he said.
The singer’s honesty about the ongoing evolution of his voice resonated with fans, many of whom praised him for continuing to grow as an artist while embracing his authentic self.
