On Instagram Stories, Yasmien shared a post originally shared by financial-themed page @peso.weekly, which tackled the weight of taxes and questioned whether citizens are truly getting the services they deserve in return.

The reposted card began by pointing out how workers don’t get to fully enjoy their salaries because of automatic deductions:

"Every payday, you don’t even get to touch your full salary. The government has already taken its cut: income tax, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG. By the time your pay slips into your account, a chunk is gone."

It then highlighted how Filipinos continue to shoulder more costs when making everyday purchases, with taxes attached to almost everything:

"Then when you buy groceries, eat out, or gas up, you’re hit with 12% VAT. Fuel, cigarettes, alcohol, even your soft drinks? All slapped with excise taxes."

The post also pointed out that additional fees and charges come with other essential transactions:

"Want to buy a house, take out a loan, or renew your license? More fees, more deductions. It feels like you’re paying two, three times for the same peso."

Finally, it raised the question of whether these taxes are translated into quality public services:

"And after all that, what do you really get? Hospitals that still make you pay, schools that can’t fit students, roads that crumble after one rainy season, pensions that can’t keep up with the cost of rice."

Along with the repost, Yasmien shared her own reflection in the caption. She recalled what one of her professors once said and stressed that Filipinos are taxed from the very beginning of life:

"I remember one of my professors saying that some people believe a person has no right to complain if they don’t pay taxes. But if you think about it, every Filipino pays taxes in one way or another. Even from the moment a child is conceived, the supplements a mother takes are already taxed. From the baby’s milk to diapers and other essentials, everything carries a tax burden."

Yasmien closed her reflection with a striking observation: "The truth is, we have been paying taxes since the very beginning of our lives, yet this is what we get in return: a system tainted with corruption and inefficiency."
