She has taken to social media to share a heartfelt post paying tribute to Cocoy, who was her “mentor and confidant.”
“With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of my beloved uncle, mentor and confidant Cocoy Laurel — a gifted actor, singer, and a man that LIVED FOR GOD,” the actress-singer penned.
Denise went on to laud and honor her late uncle’s lasting impact on the world.

”He graced the world with his world class talent, his saint like kindness, his massive heart filled with love for everyone, generosity and his unwavering faith.”
She continued, “His voice — one that moved so many hearts and lifted spirits — now leading the heavenly choir, singing praises before the throne of the One he served so deeply reunited with his friends and family.”
Denise went on to write a comforting note regarding the unfortunate news.
“Though we mourn his absence, we celebrate his life and the legacy of love, art, and devotion he leaves behind in the hearts of all the people whose life he’s changed.”
Denise concluded her post by expressing her deep gratitude to her late uncle for the inspiration.
“Forever thankful for how he changed mine. Had he not sung so boldly with his life, I may never have found my own voice. The path I walk as an artist was first lit by his steps and inspired by his love.”

Cocoy Laurel, whose full name is Victor “Cocoy” Laurel, is a veteran Filipino actor, singer, and theatre performer from the prominent Laurel family. He first rose to fame in the 1970s as a movie heartthrob, appearing alongside Nora Aunor in hit films like "Lollipops and Roses," "Lollipops and Roses at Burong Talangka," and "Impossible Dream." A multi-talented artist, he also pursued fine arts, studying painting in Madrid, and trained in prestigious performing arts schools such as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Juilliard.
Cocoy passed away at 72 years old on Saturday, June 14, his niece Nicole Laurel Asensio announced on social media.
