“yes i just talked about embracing my acne but it has not been an easy journey. i didn’t have acne as a teen, it just started in my early 20s. of course i was extremely insecure. i would want to cover up my breakouts with makeup and hide them with my hair.”

”I’ve spent so much money on skincare, supplements, water filters etc. trying to figure out what the cause was. I’m still in the process of figuring it out and that’s okay.”

Despite the challenges, Maureen highlighted that healing began with her mindset:

“I knew the first step had to be self love. i had to tell myself that it was normal and that it can happen to anyone, that it wouldn’t make me any less beautiful.”

She also addressed the difficulty of dealing with unsolicited comments from others:

“(it was the hardest when people would point it out. like yes of course i know i have acne) easier said than done but a journey doesn’t happen overnight. this has definitely been a practice of patience.”

Maureen’s openness struck a chord with many of her followers, who praised her for breaking the stigma around adult acne and promoting self-acceptance in a world that often equates beauty with flawlessness.
