Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros has been pushing for the passage of divorce bill in the Philippines.

KAMI learned that Hontiveros believes that divorce is “pro-family” and “pro-children.”

In a report by ABS-CBN News, the Senate had its first hearing about the divorce bill on Tuesday.

“Divorce assumes the marriage has been broken. It’s not divorce that breaks the marriage, it’s the abuse, the oppression or the lovelessness that preceded it,” Hontiveros said.

“It makes us respect marriage more by being more discerning with our choices in life. It protects children from abuse and rebuilds broken families,” she added.

“Nobody wants divorce. It’s painful. It signals the end of love,” Hontiveros said.

“But it should be there for those who need it. For second chances. For healing,” the senator added.
