Senator-elect Francis Tolentino, in his Independence Day message, expressed that he is mulling about adding one more star to the Philippine Flag, which currently has three stars and a sun.
"I propose a fourth star to the Philippine flag, “ he said during the 121st Independence Day celebration in Davao City.
These pronouncements made rounds on social media and quickly grew to a trending topic. Pinoy Netizens slammed the new senator and thousands more reacted to the 4-star idea.
"Pls.
“3 stars are enough representing Luzon Visayas & Mindanao. Bakit para saan ang pang apat?”
Tolentino explained that the proposed fourth star is for Benham Rise, an island group in the Pacific Ocean, at the Northeastern side of The Philippines. He noted that China has also made territorial claims on Benham Rise and that the government is still asserting our right over the said group of Islands.
“A fourth star to reflect the Benham Rise, the future Philippines, the future land of the next generation of Filipinos," he said.
