-Hot topic now on social media: Adding another star on the Philippine Flag
-Majority of the netizens are saying NO to the proposed fourth star on our National Flag
-Senator-elect Francis Tolentino explains why he proposed this during the 121st Philippine Independence Day celebration
Netizens are outraged after Senator-elect Francis Tolentino proposed to add a fourth star on the Philippine Flag. It’s now a trending topic on the four corners of social media.
Senator-elect Francis Tolentino, in his Independence Day message, expressed that he is mulling about adding one more star to the Philippine Flag, which currently has three stars and a sun.
"I propose a fourth star to the Philippine flag, “ he said during the 121st Independence Day celebration in Davao City.
These pronouncements made rounds on social media and quickly grew to a trending topic. Pinoy Netizens slammed the new senator and thousands more reacted to the 4-star idea.
"Pls.
“3 stars are enough representing Luzon Visayas & Mindanao. Bakit para saan ang pang apat?”
Tolentino explained that the proposed fourth star is for Benham Rise, an island group in the Pacific Ocean, at the Northeastern side of The Philippines. He noted that China has also made territorial claims on Benham Rise and that the government is still asserting our right over the said group of Islands.
“A fourth star to reflect the Benham Rise, the future Philippines, the future land of the next generation of Filipinos," he said.
Netizens, however, were not convinced and continued to be proactive in social media about the Independence Day hot topic.
“Don’t count your eggs before they hatch.
“There are other more important things that need your attention senator... wag yan ang pagkaabalahan mo.”
“Anak ng tinapa yan ang daming pde unahin sir wag muna yan e baka dpa kyo nkkaupo e puro batikos lng aabutin nyo.”
Some netizens even ridiculed the senator’s proposal and made possible designs of the Phillippine flag if it had four stars.
“There are more important things to be done. Hmmppp!!!”
Tolentino reiterated that in order to materialize this proposal, it would still have to go through the legislative process and consultations from involved government agencies such as National Historical Commission.
In a previous report by KAMI, the new senator was quoted saying, “Again, I'm reminding you, as what President Emilio Aguinaldo said during the first anniversary of our independence: ‘Ang Pilipinas ay para sa Pilipino.'"
Senator-elect Francis Tolentino recently won a seat in the Senate in the 2019 senatorial elections. He is the Former Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs of President Rodrigo Duterte. Prior to this, he was the Chairman, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and served as Mayor of Tagaytay City from 1995-2004.
