- The lead role in the movie, “Boy Tokwa” was not supposedly for Jose Manalo
- The first choice for that role was veteran actor and host Joey De Leon
- The director of the film revealed the reason for the replacement
Veteran Kapuso actor Joey De Leon was reportedly the first choice for the lead role in the now-showing comedy film entitled, “Boy Tokwa.”
KAMI learned that the “Eat Bulaga” mainstay was replaced by another comedian in the person of Jose Manalo before the shooting date.
Direk Tony Reyes initially revealed in an interview that Jose was not supposedly the star in the movie who will bring life to the character of Rodrigo Morelos or Boy Tokwa.
However, when he saw the picture of the lead character, he thought that the role is best suited for the “Sunday Pinasaya” star.
“Actually, nung una, gusto sana nila Joey de Leon. Pero nung nakita ko yung picture ni Boy Tokwa, kamukha sila ni Jose Manalo,” the filmmaker quipped through PEP.ph.
"Sabi ko sa kanila, mas maganda siguro kung si Jose,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jose also admitted that the lead role in the first feature film of VST Productions owned by Vicente Sotto was initially not for him.
However, he claimed that during the time of film production, Joey was not available so the role was offered to him.
"Si Tito Joey yata yung gusto nila noon, matagal na. Mahaba pa yung buhok niya noon kaya pwedeng siya,” the comedian stated.
"Siguro nung time na ito, hindi na pwedeng mag-shoot si Tito Joey kaya sa akin napunta,” he added.
Here is the trailer of the film:
In a previous article by KAMI, Jose disclosed the special reason why he wants to work with Kapamilya stars John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo.
Jose Manalo, or Ariel Pagtalonia Manalo in real life, is a Filipino actor and comedian who was born on February 12, 1966. He is now a regular host of the longest-running noontime show, “Eat Bulaga.”
