What happened during the State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte this year will be unforgettable. Before the main event started, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was appointed as the new House Speaker.

Since she ended her term in presidency, she was accused of plunder and election fraud. She also had a hospital arrest. She also started serving at the House of Representatives. KAMI learned that Macapagal-Arroyo is the first former President to assume the post of being the House Speaker.

As reported by Entrepreneur, the House Speaker’s declared Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) spiked to P464.8 million in 2017. When she was just starting, her SALN was around P26.6 million.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, in 2015, Macapagal-Arroyo’s wealth increased by P10 million. Back in 2014, she had properties worth P78, 802,900.13; personal properties of P217, 689,401.08; and P150, 000,000 in liabilities.

However, in 2013, she had P75, 404,637.00 real properties and personal properties worth P211, 352,788.47 and had liabilities of P150, 000,000.00.

When asked regarding the sudden increase of their wealth, the former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo told ABS-CBN that he can’t remember but “I think it's because we sold a property and we invested well. She is detained, but I'm not. And whether detained or not, people can sell and do sell property.”

She also owns a mansion in Lubao, Pampanga.
