Mayor Jonathan Tan of Pandan, Antique told ABS-CBN News that he and a companion had swam for hours in the open sea to find help when their boat capsized on March 29.
Mayor Jonathan said he was looking for help to save his girlfriend Bianca Manalo, actress Ehra Madrigal, and their seven other companions in the speedboat.
Their group were on their way to Mararison Island in Culasi town when they were hit by strong waves, causing their boat to overturn.
"Napakabilis lang ng pangyayari, 10 to 15 seconds, tumaob na kami. Nagpanic na ang lahat. I had to do something. Kung hindi ko gagawin yung, malulunod kaming lahat," said Mayor Jonathan.
He added that after several efforts to call for help, he and his relative, Torrebeo Barrientos, decided to swim to shore and get help.
"Nagpe-pray ako, sabi ko, 'Lord, ayoko maging selfish; please save me so I can save them," he said.
The mayor added that they swam for approximately 2 hours before local fishermen saw them in Sebaste town.
The fishermen immediately went to where Bianca, Ehra and the others were to rescue them.
"Napaiyak talaga ako. While we were on our way pabalik sa kanila, sabi ko, 'Makikita ko pa ba sila? Are they still there?' Grabe talaga, parang pelikula yung pangyayari," he said.

The survivors received medical assistance from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management.
Others who were aboard the speedboat were Ehra's husband Tom Yeung, their friends, and Mayor Jonathan's relatives, Joyce Mallari and her two daughters, Majel Tresche, and Bennie Dable.
Bennie died in the incident. He is Mayor Jonathan's cousin and bodyguard.
All survivors are still recovering from the accident.
