- The University of the Philippines (UP) is not included in the official list of performing schools in the 2016 UAAP Cheerdance Competition
- The UAAP Cheerdance Competition Facebook page posted the list of participants for this season's competition
- UP Pep Squad has previously filed a complaint in line with last year's cheerdance competition results where they landed on 3rd spot
For college students, the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) events are the most anticipated highlight of the students' school year. During UAAP, the university spirit is most present as students from each university unite together to support their beloved school.
One of the most exciting UAAP events aside from basketball and volleyball is of course, the yearly cheerdance competition. Every university presents their piece with unique themes while students gather together as they engage in 'screaming competition' to cheer for the university they are rooting for.
However, it seems like the 2016 Cheerdance Competition will not be complete as the University of the Philippines is not participating in this year's event.
The UAAP Cheerdance Competition Facebook page posted the official line up of the Cheerdance performances for UAAP season 79 and netizens have noticed that the University of the Philippines, one of the best performing and most awaited universities, is not included on the list.
Last year, UP Pep Squad landed on the 3rd spot with the National University Pep Squad as the Champion and the University of Sto. Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe on the 2nd place.
UP Pep Squad coach Lalaine Juarez-Pereña filed a complaint to the UAAP Cheerdance Committee last year, saying that the results did not adhere genuinely to the guidelines and criteria of the competition.
Pereña then said that if their points will not be answered, the UP Pep Squad will withdraw from this year's competition. The UAAP CDC replied to the complaint, however, they did not answer the points rised by UP Pep Squad in the letter.
The UAAP Cheerdance Competition is also participated by the Far Eastern University Cheering Squad, De La Salle University Animo Squad, Ateneo De Manila University Blue Babble Battalion, Adamson University Pep Squad, and University of the East Pep Squad.
