A police response in Davao City turned deadly after a 43-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a mother and her son inside their auto shop was shot by authorities on Tuesday.

According to initial reports, the suspect entered the establishment in Barangay Riverside while armed with a knife and immediately attacked the 26-year-old shop owner.
Police say the victim sustained three stab wounds before his mother intervened. The mother was also injured when the suspect stabbed her in the back.
The two victims were brought to a nearby hospital for treatment shortly after the assault.

Meanwhile, members of Task Force Davao and the Calinan Police Station launched a manhunt that led them to the home of the suspect’s in-law.
Officers say the man refused to surrender and even attempted to stab one of the TF Davao personnel. Because of the threat, the officer fired his weapon.
After the arrest, police recovered the knife from the suspect. Authorities rushed him to a medical facility but he was later pronounced dead.
“Nung kaniyang pinaputukan ito, tumakbo ‘yung tao,” says Police Col. Mannan Muarip.
“Nung nakita na may tama, ito’y itinakbo nila sa hospital. But unfortunately, na-declare siyang DOA.”
As part of police protocol, the officer involved in the shooting is now under investigation.
His firearm will also undergo ballistic examination to ensure a transparent review of the incident.
Investigators are also looking into the motive behind the attack. Police confirm there had been previous tension between the families of the suspect and the victims.
“’Yung matagal nang hidwaan ng dalawang mag-anak, dalawang magpamilya,” says Muarip.
He adds that barangay officials had previously mediated between them, but the situation took a violent turn during the latest encounter.
In another report, a 74-year-old man in Davao City lost his life after he was allegedly stabbed by his own grandson. Family members revealed that the suspect had previously shown threatening behavior toward the elderly victim. They also shared that the 27-year-old had been confined to a mental health facility several times before the tragic incident. Instead of pursuing criminal charges, the family decided to have him committed once again for psychiatric care.
Meanwhile, a separate case involves an 18-year-old student who took her own life after unauthorized CCTV footage linking her to an ice cream theft circulated among local youths. According to her family, the widespread sharing of the video caused her severe anxiety, overwhelming shame, and deep fear in the days leading up to her death.
