Vice President Leni Robredo recently lauded Rappler CEO Maria Ressa after the latter won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize along with Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov.

On Twitter, Robredo congratulated the Nobel laureate and said that this recognition affirms Ressa’s “tireless efforts to hold the line for truth and accountability.”

Ressa is the first Filipino to win the Nobel Peace Prize, as per Rappler.

In a report by Time, the Filipina journalist and Muratov were selected among 329 candidates, with the selection committee saying that the two represent journalists who stand up in the midst of “increasingly adverse conditions” against them.

Ressa and former researcher-writer Reynaldo Santos Jr. had been convicted with cyberlibel — the first journalists in the Philippines to be convicted with the said case, Inquirer.net reported.

Maria Leonor Gerona Robredo or Leni Robredo is the current Vice President of the Philippines. She is a Filipina lawyer and social activist. She has three daughters. She is the widow of the late interior secretary Jesse Robredo.

In a previous report by KAMI, Robredo has already filed her certificate of candidacy for president a few hours after announcing that she will be seeking the highest post in the land. According to the Commission on Elections, Robredo is running as an independent candidate.

Several celebrities, on the other hand, aired their support for her presidential bid. Among those prominent personalities are Angel Locsin, Enchong Dee and Pokwang. They took to social media to share posts highlighting pink – Robredo's new campaign color.
