However, since the tail number of the plane is not visible in the video, it cannot be confirmed if it was really the same plane that crashed or the same passengers who perished.

According to Rappler, there were 96 military personnel and crew aboard the plane, most of them were new army graduates.

Military officials said that most of the plane’s military passengers were destined for Sulu province where they were supposed to augment government forces on the ground.

Unfortunately, the plane missed the runway while landing in the Jolo airport and ultimately crashed at the nearby village of Patikul.

Reuters News reported that the recent C-130 crash in Sulu is considered the worst Philippine Air Force disaster in 30 years.

The New York Times, quoting military officials, reported that aside from the fatalities aboard the plane, three civilians on the ground perished.

Officials did not say what caused the civilians’ untimely demise, whether they were hit with debris from the plane or perished from the fire and smoke resulting from the crash.

The Philippine Air Force has had assets that figured in accidents resulting in loss of lives. In many cases, the assets involved choppers that include the aging Huey helicopters, though the most recent involved an S-70i Black Hawk, which caused the demise of all of the six military officers and personnel on board.

About 30 years ago, a similar C-130 PAF plane crashed in 1993, causing 30 people to perish. The most recent, which involved a similar aircraft is being regarded by Philippine military officials as the worst in the history of the Philippine Air Force.

Last year, a Sikorsky ambulance helicopter belonging to the Philippine Air Force crashed in Basilan. The chopper is used to transport wounded soldiers from their assigned areas to hospitals in big cities nearby. A witness said that the chopper was about to crash directly into heavily populated areas but the pilots managed to swing the aircraft away. Many saw the soldiers warning people on the ground and waving them off. All four military officers and personnel aboard the ambulance chopper perished.

Most of those who enter military service in the Philippines are ordinary citizens but recently, dozens of celebrities have also joined. One of them is Arci Muñoz, who shared that she trained and graduated as a reservist of the Philippine Air Force. The actress took to social media to flaunt her uniform as she started her physical training on June 12 of last year. She also shared a video giving some glimpses of the first day of her training. Being the latest woman and celebrity to undergo the said training, Arci encouraged other females to enlist as well.
