The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has placed Taal Volcano under Alert Level 3 on Thursday, July 1, due to magmatic unrest.

In a bulletin released Thursday, Phivolcs said that Taal's main crater "generated a short-lived dark phreatomagmatic plume one kilometer high" at 3:16 p.m.

“This means that there is magmatic intrusion at the Main Crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions."

It also urged residents of high-risk barangays to get evacuated.

"PHIVOLCS strongly recommends Taal Volcano Island and high-risk barangays of Agoncillo and Laurel, Batangas be evacuated due to the possible hazards of pyroclastic density currents and volcanic tsunami,” it said.

The said agency likewise shared with the public via social media a video showing the phreatomagmatic eruption of the said volcano in Batangas.
