Richard then remarked pasta tasted better because he added more garlic, quipping that no one would be able to “aswang” him, a colloquial term that meant to lure or entice.

“Hindi ako aaswangin, Honey,” Richard said. His wife, apparently unfamiliar with the term asked what he meant and the mayor said that in street lingo, girls wouldn’t be able to approach him.

“Ay, hindi talaga, Honey! Hahaha!” Lucy immediately replied.

“Binabalak pa lang nila, alam ko na,” the model turned politician said, adding that wives have a special intuition for “aswangs,” and they can smell them from far away.

“Alam mo, kaming mga asawa nakakaamoy ng mga aswang. Gi plano palang ninyo, abort mission na,” Lucy said.

It was Lucy who requested Richard to add more garlic to the pasta that Richard was preparing. In Philippine folklore, “aswangs,” witches, or bad spirits are afraid of garlic.
