Frankie Pangilinan slams Harry Roque for likening COVID lockdown to 'vacation'

Frankie Pangilinan took a swipe at Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque’s recent statement on the community quarantine imposed in the country amid the pandemic.

“Halos isang taon na tayong nagbakasyon dahil sa COVID-19. Siguro naman po ngayong nandito na ang bakuna, hayaan naman nating maka-recover tayo for lost time,” Roque said during his briefing on Tuesday, March 2.
According to CNN Philippines, Roque’s statement came after President Rodrigo Duterte reclassified November 2, December 24, and December 31 as special working days in a bid to support economic recovery.

In a Twitter post, Pangilinan shared her frank thoughts on the said statement:

“okay but this is truly just foul and cruel”
“lockdown, school and work at home, and forced isolation =/= a vacation. people have died. how heartbreaking.”
Roque clarifies ‘year-long vacation’ remark
After Roque drew flak from the public, Roque clarified that his “vacation” comment was only meant to give emphasis to Filipinos’ unemployment since the pandemic broke out.
“Hindi naman po talaga bakasyon 'yan, kung hindi, hindi nakapagtatrabaho. Kaya ngayon na pupuwede na po tayong makapagtrabaho sana dahil nagbubukas na tayo ng ekonomiya, hayaan naman nating kumita at makapagtrabaho ang ating mga kababayan,” Roque said as quoted by PNA’s report.
