Francis Leo Marcos has given an interview after getting arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for allegedly violating the optometry law.
According to ABS-CBN News (reported by Niko Baua) and GMA News (reported by Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas), it was the NBI Cybercrime Division that arrested Marcos for a case filed against him in Baguio City.

A video of Marcos’ first interview, taken by Marianne Bermudez of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, after the controversial arrest has gone viral on social media.
The businessman argued that he has not violated any law with his eye care program. He theorized that someone who got offended by his “Mayaman Challenge” is behind the arrest.
Marcos’ “Mayaman Challenge” is his video challenge to the wealthy people in his QC neighborhood to donate to the poor amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Basta kumita ako, nagbibigay po ako ng optimum eye care program sa lahat ng ating kababayan, Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao.
“Nakarating ako ng Maguindanao, nakarating ako ng Cagayan, dulo ng Pilipinas.
“Ako po, wala po akong ginawang hindi maganda, puro pagtulong lang ho sa ating mga mamamayan.
“Isa lang ang tinitingnan ko rito, may tinamaan talaga dun sa ‘Mayaman Challenge’ ko at talagang gusto akong pabagsakin,” Marcos said.

The optometry law, also known as Republic Act No. 8050, is “an act regulating the practice of optometry, upgrading optometric education, integrating optometrists, and for other purposes,” according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Online rumors say that Marcos allegedly violated the law by supposedly giving people free prescription glasses without having the license to do so. However, specific details of the alleged violation have not yet been given by the authorities.
