American actress Michelle Trachtenberg’s sudden passing has recently been making headlines.

The 39-year-old actress was found dead in her New York City apartment on Wednesday.

According to PEOPLE Magazine, The New York Police Department confirmed that police responded to a 911 call at 1 Columbus Place in New York City around 8:00 a.m. on February 26.

"Upon arrival, officers observed a 39-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased. Criminality is not suspected," the NYPD told PEOPLE.

As per New York Post, Trachtenberg underwent a liver transplant within the last year, but her body may have rejected the organ, according to sources, who believed the actress died of natural causes.

Meanwhile, her public relations team released a statement confirming the actress’ death.

"It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away. The family requests privacy for their loss," her representative, Gary Mantoosh, said in a statement.

Trachtenberg was born on October 11, 1985, in New York City to Jewish immigrant parents. She got her start in Hollywood when she was three years old in commercials. Her television debut was in the 1994 Nickelodeon series "The Adventures of Pete & Pete."

Trachtenberg’s big break came when she was cast on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as Dawn, the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar's titular character, from 2000 to 2003. The role earned her a Teen Choice Award nomination for choice TV sidekick in 2001.

She later starred as Georgina Sparks on "Gossip Girl" from 2008 to 2012 and was nominated as the choice TV villain at the Teen Choice Award in 2012.
