In a report by Joseph Morong in the State of the Nation in GMA 7, the man thought it was the end of his life after being swallowed alive by the humpback whale.

Humpback whales do not eat humans. They are filter feeders, primarily consuming small marine organisms like krill, plankton, and small fish. Using a technique called bubble-net feeding, they trap their prey in a spiral of bubbles before gulping large amounts of water and filtering out food with their baleen plates.

While their massive mouths can technically fit a human, their throats are too narrow to swallow anything larger than a grapefruit. Accidental encounters, such as a person being engulfed in a whale’s mouth during feeding, have occurred, but the whale usually spits them out unharmed. Humpback whales are not predators of humans and pose no intentional threat.
