An insect found in a remote rainforest in Australia has been identified as the biggest and heaviest insect ever recorded in the country.

It measures nearly 16 inches long, which is longer than a standard ruler, and weighs 44 grams.

According to Kuya Kim Atienza’s report on GMA News “24 Oras,” this insect is known as a Stick Insect or Walking Stick.

It has a slim body and comes in green or brown, allowing it to blend in with trees and leaves in the forest.

Stick Insects come in different species and can grow between 1 to 12 inches in length.

However, this newly discovered one exceeded the usual size range.

Because of its weight and length, it now holds the record for the heaviest insect in Australia.

Experts believe that the insect’s large size may be an evolutionary adaptation to the cold climate in the area, helping it survive better in its environment.

Globally, the record for the world’s heaviest insect still belongs to a pregnant Giant Weta (Deinacrida heteracantha) from an island in New Zealand.

This insect, which looks like a giant grasshopper or cricket, weighs 71 grams.
