A passenger plane tragically crashed in India just minutes after taking off, according to officials.
The incident took place today, Thursday, in the western city of Ahmedabad, India.
Aviation officials described it as a "tragic accident," noting that the aircraft had 242 people on board.
Air India’s flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner headed for London Gatwick, went down shortly after takeoff, officials confirmed.

The aviation minister of India released a statement saying he was "shocked and devastated" by the tragic crash in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, the civil aviation authority of India said that "there were 242 person on board," including 10 cabin crew members and 2 pilots.
After the Air India plane issued a mayday call, it "crashed immediately after takeoff", said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
Additionally, the vicil aviation authority mentioned that the passenger plane crashed outside the perimeter of the airport.
Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, the aviation minister, directed "all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action."
"Rescue teams have been mobilised, and all efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support are being rushed to the site," Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu added.
