In the wake of the discovery, KMG released an official statement, according to Soompi, to address the public and the actor's fans. The agency began with a formal announcement:
"Hello. This is KMG. We notify you of the passing of our agency’s actor Lee Sang Bo."
The statement continued by addressing the privacy of the grieving family and the sensitive nature of the details surrounding his death:
"We ask for your understanding in not being able to reveal the cause of death due to the request of his family," the agency explained.
Regarding the final arrangements, the agency provided the location for his memorial while requesting that the public and media respect the family’s boundaries during this difficult time:
"His wake is held at Room 3 of the Pyeongtaek Central Funeral Home, but we respectfully decline coverage and visiting for the protection of his family and request for cooperation. Thank you," the statement concluded.
Lee’s personal life and career were marked by significant challenges, including a highly publicized incident in 2022 when he was arrested on suspicion of illegal drug use. He was released immediately after the allegations were proven unfounded. At the time, Lee spoke out to clear his name, as reported by Korea JoongAng Daily, saying he never used illegal substances.
He further clarified that the medication in question was part of a long-term treatment plan for his mental health. Lee explained that he had been taking doctor-prescribed tranquilizers to manage depression and anxiety that began after his father’s death in 2009, and which reportedly worsened following the tragic loss of his sister and mother in a 2019 accident.
Born in 1981, Lee Sang Bo launched his acting career in 2006 with the KBS drama Invisible Man Choi Jang Soo. Over nearly two decades, he became a recognizable face on television, appearing in notable projects such as Elegant Empire, Secretly Greatly, Rugal, and Private Lives.
