A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Lima, Peru on Sunday, June 15, causing panic among the city’s residents.

The quake scared worshipers during a mass at the city’s cathedral on Sunday morning, as seen in the video posted by Reuters.

The now-viral video captured worshipers flee the church in fear while the priest was conducting the service. The latter part of the video also showed residents fleeing buildings in the city.

The tremor was felt across Lima and nearby districts. According to the Geophysical Institute of Peru, no major structural damage was reported.

As per a report by CNN, the quake's epicenter was located 23 kilometers (14 miles) southwest of Callao, west of the capital Lima. It has left one person dead and five injured, authorities said.

Police Col. Ramiro Clauco told RPP radio that a 36-year-old man died in northern Lima while “standing outside his vehicle waiting for a passenger” when a wall from the fourth floor of a building under construction detached and fell on his head, the same report by CNN noted.

Meanwhile, five people injured are being treated in hospitals, according to the Emergency Operations Center.
