Uruguay is currently mourning the passing of former Uruguayan President José Mujica, also referred to as "Pepe." He was 89 years old.

Current President Yamandú Orsi announced the unfortunate news in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our comrade Pepe Mujica. President, activist, leader, and leader,” Orsi mournfully revealed.

The current leader likewise wrote a short yet heartfelt message to his late predecessor.

“We will miss you dearly, dear old friend. Thank you for everything you gave us and for your profound love for your people.”

In a report by BBC, Mujica's cause of death is not known but he had been suffering from oesophageal cancer.

Mujica governed Uruguay from 2010 to 2015. The politician, dubbed the “world's poorest president,” was known for the simple way he lived as president.

According to The Manila Times's article, Mujica gave away much of his salary to charity and lived a modest life on his farm, with his fellow ex-guerrilla wife and three-legged dog.

Prince Frederik of Luxembourg, the youngest son of Prince Robert of Luxembourg and Princess Julie of Nassau, has passed away. He succumbed to a rare genetic condition called POLG Mitochondrial disease on March 1, 2025, in Paris, France. He was 22. Prince Robert announced the unfortunate news in a heartfelt statement posted on the website for the POLG Foundation. Prince Robert likewise recalled Prince Frederik’s last moments with them. It is worth noting that Prince Frederik was born with POLG Mitochondrial disease, his father wrote, though his family did not know it at the time.
