Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland has passed away at 24, the team confirmed.

He was in his second season with the Cowboys and had just scored the first NFL touchdown of his career in their 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals earlier this week.

According to the Frisco Police Department in Texas, Kneeland was involved in a vehicle chase on Wednesday night.

His car was later found crashed, and officers believed he left the scene on foot. During the search, police were told that he had expressed suicidal intentions. He was found dead early Thursday morning.

The Cowboys released a statement expressing deep sadness.

They described Kneeland as a beloved teammate and said their thoughts are with his girlfriend, Catalina, and his family. The NFL also shared a message, saying it was deeply saddened and is offering support and counseling resources.

Kneeland missed part of his rookie season due to injury but still appeared in 11 games.

This season, he played in seven games and made an impact on special teams, where he recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown.

He was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft from Western Michigan University. His former college coach,

Lance Taylor, shared that Kneeland was more than a strong athlete.

He said Kneeland was a remarkable young man with great passion for life and his teammates, and that they formed a bond that went beyond football.

The investigation into the incident continues. The football community is mourning the loss.
