In a lengthy message, San Jose described the latest competition as Yulo’s final major competition of the year and emphasized that his story cannot be defined by a single result.

“Last competition for mahal Carlos, this year 🏆,” San Jose wrote.

She said that being physically present throughout Yulo’s career has taught her an important lesson: difficult results do not necessarily mark the end of an athlete’s journey.

“One of the things I’ve learned ever since being physically present in everything that you do, is that our story doesn’t end with one competition, one result, or one difficult season,” she said.

San Jose then looked back at several challenging chapters in Yulo’s career, beginning with the Tokyo Olympics.

“I go back to Tokyo Olympics, when you missed the floor in the qualifications and got so close to a podium finish in the vault finals,” she recalled.

She also remembered the 2023 World Championships, when a difficult vault result appeared to threaten Yulo’s chances of qualifying for the Olympics.

“the 2023 World Champs, when that zero on vault made us feel that the Olympic qualification was all gone,” San Jose wrote.

She then pointed to the Paris Olympics, where Yulo encountered another setback after falling on the pommel horse while competing for an all-around position.

“And then came Paris, watching you fall on pommel horse fighting for an all around place, knowing how much it hurt and how much you had sacrificed to be there,” she said.

But the Paris Games ultimately became one of the defining moments of Yulo’s career. Just days after the difficult moment, he won two Olympic gold medals in the men’s floor exercise and vault.

“But just a few days later, God lifted you up in ways we could have never imagined, making you our double gold Olympian,” San Jose wrote.

She also recalled Yulo’s experience at the Nagoya Asian Games, where he experienced another setback during vault qualification before returning home with two gold medals.

“Nagoya Asian Games, falling on the vault qualification, but came back home and stronger with another double gold 🥇🥇,” she said.

For San Jose, these experiences demonstrate that an unexpected result does not necessarily determine what happens next.

“There were moments when we genuinely wondered what would happen next, when the dreams we had worked so hard for suddenly felt so far away,” she wrote.

She said those difficult periods ultimately reinforced her belief that God’s plans can be greater than what people initially envision.

“From the moments we thought were the end of the road to standing on the biggest podium in the world, God reminded us that His plans are always greater than what we can see,” San Jose said.

Beyond gymnastics, San Jose said Yulo has taught her an important lesson about perseverance. She recalled how he has encouraged her not to immediately view setbacks as defeats.

“Through all these years, you’ve also taught me something that goes far beyond sports: not to be so quick to feel defeated when things don’t go our way the first time,” she wrote.

San Jose also recalled one phrase that Yulo frequently tells her.

“You always tell me, ‘hindi pa tapos ang laban.’ And you have always been right,” she said.

She explained that Yulo’s reminder has helped her understand that an unsuccessful attempt does not mean a person’s journey is finished.

“Just because something didn’t happen the way we hoped, it doesn’t mean the story ends there,” San Jose wrote.

She encouraged them to continue showing up, believing in their goals and trusting that God is working even when the outcome is not immediately visible.

“We just have to keep showing up, keep believing, and trust that God is still working behind the scenes,” she said.

San Jose concluded her message by stressing that she does not see the latest World Championships result as the end of Yulo’s journey.

“We’re not at the finish line yet. ‘Hindi pa tapos ang laban’, as you always say. May the Lord God be with us 🤝🏻,” she wrote.
