Two more Filipino mountaineers have conquered Mt. Everest! Jeno Panganiban and Miguel Mapalad successfully reached the summit on Sunday morning, May 18.

Panganiban and Mapalad joined Rhisael "Ric" Rabe as Filipino mountaineers who successfully climbed the top of the world’s highest mountain during the March-May climbing season.
According to their expedition team Seven Summit Treks, Panganiban and Mapalad reached the summit around 8:00 a.m. after beginning their quest earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Philippine 14 Peaks Expedition Team carried by Panganiban and Mapalad, also took to social media to share the great news.
“Summit! May 18, 2025. Mabuhay ang Filipino mountaineers. Mabuhay ang mga Pilipino. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas. We did it!” Panganiban said in a text, as shown in a screenshot posted by the team.
The team also honored their fellow Filipinos during the feat, namely Rabe and the late Philipp Santiago II.
“But this victory isn’t theirs alone. Joining them in this monumental feat are two other proud Filipinos Sir Ric Rabe and the late Sir PJ Santiago II, whose unwavering spirit lives on in this triumph. Sir PJ may not have reached the summit, but he gave everything for this dream with love, courage, and pride for the Philippines.”
Furthermore, the team dedicated their success to all Filipinos, noting that “this climb was never just for them, it was for all Filipinos. To show that we can dream big, rise higher, and endure together.”

Engr. Philipp Santiago II, a 45-year-old Filipino mountaineer, passed away during his quest to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. He died at Camp IV while preparing for the summit push on the evening of May 14. Kapuso broadcast journalist Emil Sumangil is mourning the passing of his mountaineer cousin. In a heartbreaking post, the newscaster asked for prayers for Santiago’s soul. He also respectfully requested privacy as they grieve the climber’s demise.
