Gilas Pilipinas made Filipinos proud as they defeated China with a score of 77-76 at the 2023 Asian Games. The come-from-behind win, after trailing China by 20 points earlier in the game, allows the national team to proceed to the gold-medal match.

Gilas Pilipinas’ Justin Brownlee led the way with 33 points, scoring the national team’s last 8 points, including the game-winning triple with just 24 seconds left in the match.

The former coach of Gilas Pilipinas, Chot Reyes, took to social media to react to the heart-stopping victory. Chot shared a photo of him filled with joy as he was watching the game. He also congratulated the current Gilas coach Tim Cone and the whole team for beating China. Finally, he expressed his admiration for Justine Brownlee’s heroic efforts.

One of the members of Gilas Pilipinas is PBA star Scottie Thompson. He is part of the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of the Philippine Basketball Association. Scottie played college basketball at the University of Perpetual Help of the NCAA. He was then drafted fifth overall in the 2015 PBA draft by the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
