Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is a former senator, action star, and long-standing public figure in both Philippine politics and entertainment. He first became widely known in the 1990s for his blockbuster action films before entering public service, later serving multiple terms in the Senate and previously as governor of Cavite. Married to actress and Cavite Representative Lani Mercado, Revilla is also the father of several children, including Cavite 1st District Representative Jolo Revilla. Through the years, he has remained a highly visible and often controversial figure, navigating careers in both showbiz and government.
Earlier, Jolo Revilla issued a statement following his father’s voluntary surrender to authorities after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with a ghost flood control project. He explained that the move was a deliberate choice to confront the accusations directly and demonstrate confidence in the justice system. While acknowledging how difficult the situation is for their family, Jolo emphasized the value of accountability, due process, and fairness. He also appealed to the public and the media to let the legal process take its course and expressed gratitude to those who continue to support them.
In a separate development, Bong Revilla was able to post bail for the graft case filed against him but was denied bail for a P92.8 million malversation charge. Following the court’s decision, he was transferred to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory after his request to be detained at Camp Crame was rejected. Authorities allege that funds amounting to P76 million were released for a flood control project that was reported as completed but was never actually built. Revilla is set to be formally arraigned on January 23, when the court will also hear his motion for transfer to a more secure detention facility.
