According to the official statement from the Office of the Governor, the circulating posts are considered misinformation.
Vi ay maling impormasyon at pinuputol na konteksto,” the statement said.
It explained that only selected parts of the interview were edited and shared, which led to a false narrative.

The governor’s office stressed that Vilma Santos was not talking about ordinary citizens. Instead, she was discussing the growing problem of fake news and online bashing.
“Sa katunayan, tinatalakay ni Gov. Vi ang lumalalang problema ng mga nagkalat ng pekeng balita at mga bashers online,” the statement said.
Her message, they added, was meant to remind the public to check the credibility of information, avoid spreading false news, and protect healthy public discussion. The clarification also emphasized that Governor Vilma Santos-Recto was not attacking anyone from the public.
The Batangas provincial government then urged everyone to be careful with what they share online.
Vilma Santos, also known as Ate Vi and the Philippines’ Star for All Seasons, is a famous actress and public servant with a career that has lasted for decades. She started acting as a child and became widely known after starring in the film Trudis Liit, which earned her a major acting award at a young age. She also played the iconic role of Darna in several movies. Later in life, she entered politics and served as Mayor of Lipa City before becoming the first female Governor of Batangas. She is married to Senator Ralph Recto, and they have a son named Ryan Christian, while she also has a son, Luis Manzano, from her previous marriage to actor Edu Manzano.
In other news, Vilma Santos was one of the first to arrive at the wake of her close friend and fellow screen legend Nora Aunor. ABS-CBN News shared a video showing Vilma quietly visiting the wake in Taguig, dressed simply in a white long-sleeved top and black pants. Her silent and respectful presence touched many fans and quickly spread online, especially among admirers of both actresses.
Meanwhile, Vilma also shared her grief on social media after Nora’s passing. She honored her friend by calling her a Superstar and a National Artist, and thanked her for her lasting contributions to Philippine arts and culture. Their bond was formed through many years of working together in the film industry, making the loss deeply personal for Vilma.
