In a statement, Pangilinan said he believed the issues that led to Lacson’s decision had already been settled during a majority caucus last October 1.

“I hope Senator Ping will reconsider his decision to resign as Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee,” Pangilinan said. “My sense was and is that while there were a number of our colleagues in the Majority bloc who disagreed with some earlier public pronouncements made by him, the matter had been threshed out and clarified by him in a majority caucus held last Wednesday, Oct 1. No one in the majority bloc sought his replacement as Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman.”

Pangilinan further appealed to Lacson’s colleagues in the majority bloc to reaffirm their support for him to remain in his post, saying his continued leadership would help preserve stability in the Senate.

“While I appreciate Senator Ping’s sensitivity to the sentiments expressed by our fellow Senators in the Majority as a reason for his resignation, I am still hopeful that with the renewed support of the Majority bloc he will be convinced to stay on,” he said.

The senator underscored the need for steady leadership in light of the ongoing political crisis, emphasizing that the public looks to the Senate for integrity and stability.

“Now more than ever, amidst the political crisis facing the nation, our people are looking for stability and certainty in the state of our affairs and looking to the strength of our institutions to withstand the ongoing crisis and resolve it in favor of the truth, transparency, and public accountability,” Pangilinan said.

Edna Marcoleta was allegedly linked to the Milestone Guaranty bond for the flood control project, according to Bilyonaryo. Son Paolo Henry insists she is only an “independent director” at Stronghold Insurance. Some senators said they are wary of Marcoleta’s push to make the Discayas state witnesses.

Earlier, Senators Ping Lacson and Rodante Marcoleta clashed during and even after a Senate flood control hearing. Dispute centered on Lacson’s view that ex-DPWH engineer Brice Hernandez was more credible as a state witness than the Discayas Marcoleta argued against “prejudging” while Lacson asked him about supposedly being “protective of the Discayas”. Despite objections, Lacson resumed the session and allowed ex-engineer Henry Alcantara to testify.
