Makati City Mayor and former senator Nancy Binay has denied accusations that she supposedly accepted kickbacks from infrastructure projects, saying the claims were meant to divert public attention away from the real perpetrators of corruption in flood control projects.

The allegations surfaced after former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undersecretary Roberto Bernardo accused Binay, along with former Senate president Francis Escudero, Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, and former senator Bong Revilla, of benefiting from anomalies in government projects.
In her statement, Binay said:
“Nagugulat at nalulungkot ako na dinadamay ako sa mga anomalya ng DPWH. Walang katotohanan ang mga bintang sa akin.
Tahimik po tayong nagtatrabaho bilang Mayor ng Makati. Nakakagulat na nagagamit tayo para ipanglihis sa mga tunay na kailangan panagutin sa issue na ito.
Madaling magbigay ng mga mali at mapanirang salaysay. But my performance in public service has always been above board and beyond a shadow of doubt.”
Meanwhile, Senator Francis Escudero also rejected Bernardo’s claims, calling them baseless and malicious. He stressed that he has never been involved in any form of corruption, saying that he will be redeemed when all the facts are revealed.

As previously reported by KAMI, Chiz Escudero has released a heartfelt note of gratitude following his ousting. Earlier, Escudero was replaced by Senator Vicente 'Tito' Sotto as Senate President. On Instagram, Chiz released a lengthy statement where he thanked everyone for the support. According to Chiz, "Ang aking paglilingkod ay hindi nagtatapos sa isang posisyon."
