COMELEC Task Force SAFE has filed a motu proprio petition seeking the disqualification of Pasig City congressional candidate Christian "Ian" Sia.
The petition was filed due to Sia’s controversial remarks about single mothers and one of his female staff members.
According to a report by GMA 7's 'Balitanghali,' the task force said Sia violated COMELEC's guidelines on anti-discrimination and fair campaigning.
It is worth noting that Sia had already received two show cause orders in connection with his remarks during previous campaign events.

COMELEC Task Force SAFE is a special unit under the Commission on Elections that focuses on promoting safe, fair, and equal campaigning. SAFE stands for Safe, Accountable, Fair, and Equal elections.
The task force monitors candidates and their activities during the election period to make sure they follow COMELEC rules, especially when it comes to proper behavior and non-discriminatory campaigning.
They can also file petitions or take action against candidates who break these rules, even without a formal complaint.
Watch the report in the video below:
Atty. Christian "Ian" Sia is a lawyer, certified public accountant (CPA), and a congressional candidate for Pasig City's lone district in the 2025 elections. He is a founding partner of Mosveldtt Law Offices, leading its Tax, Tariff, and Trade Practice groups. Sia has represented corporate clients before the Bureau of Internal Revenue, specializing in tax-related matters. He holds a law degree from Ateneo de Manila University and an accounting degree from De La Salle University.
News, photos or videos that arouse the interest of netizens would often go viral on social media, due to the attention netizens give them. These viral posts appeal to the emotions of netizens, and in rare cases, this could also happen to ordinary people, making them very relatable.
In a previous report by KAMI, Atty. Christian Sia apologized to the public for his joke about single moms. He explained that his only intention was to catch the attention of bored listeners at the rally. He said the video did not show how the crowd laughed at his joke. The candidate faced strong backlash online after the video of his statement went viral.
Additionally, the COMELEC issued a second show cause order against Christian "Ian" Sia over his comment on a female staff member's weight. The commission said Sia may have violated the Anti-Discrimination and Fair Campaigning Guidelines. Sia was asked to explain why he should not be charged or disqualified as a candidate. This follows an earlier complaint over his offensive joke about solo parents in Pasig.
