Senator Bong Go released a statement strongly opposing the issuance of an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against former President Rodrigo Duterte, calling it an attack on the country’s sovereignty. He emphasized that the ICC should not interfere in the Philippines' internal affairs, especially since the country is no longer a member of the court.
“The issuance of the warrant of arrest by the ICC is an affront to the sovereignty of the Philippines,” Go stated.

He reiterated that the Philippines’ judicial system remains functional and independent.
“As I have reiterated before, the ICC should not interfere with our domestic affairs. And that is because, aside from the fact that we are no longer a member of the ICC, our domestic courts remain fully operational and independent.”

Go highlighted that investigations and legal proceedings regarding Duterte’s policies have already been conducted within the country. He stressed that Duterte has always been willing to face any case filed against him as long as it is judged by fellow Filipinos.
He assured the public that Duterte’s legal team would take the necessary actions in the Supreme Court.
“We leave it up to the lawyers of FPRRD to file the appropriate legal remedies in the Supreme Court.”
Go, who served as Duterte’s longtime aide before entering politics, also expressed concern for the former president’s health. He revealed that Duterte, who is turning 80 in a few days, has been experiencing medical issues and was scheduled for hospital admission.
In fact, he was supposedly scheduled for admission to the hospital tomorrow, March 12. Also, as of 3pm today, his glucose level shot up and he was again advised admission by his doctor to avoid acute diabetes complication.”
He called on authorities to prioritize Duterte’s well-being and urged the public to remain calm.
Constitutional right naman po yan ng bawat Pilipino to get proper medical attention when needed.”
Go defended Duterte’s legacy, arguing that only Filipinos have the right to judge whether his policies were effective in making communities safer.
He further asserted that the Philippines should not be dictated by foreign entities, insisting that Philippine laws should prevail over international intervention.
“Long gone were the days when foreigners had to dictate how we run our internal affairs. Filipinos should be judged by fellow Filipinos before the Philippine courts operating under Philippine laws.”
Go ended his statement with an appeal for peace, urging Filipinos to let legal processes take their course while ensuring fairness under Philippine law.
Please pray for Tatay Digong’s safety and health.”
