Rodrigo 'Roa' Duterte, the former president of the Philippines, has recently boarded a chartered flight nearly 12 hours after his arrest at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila.
According to the latest update by ABS-CBN News, the chartered flight is reportedly bound for The Hague, Netherlands, with Duterte facing charges before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He was also permitted to bring three companions, including former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, who is a Filipino lawyer who served under Duterte during his rule from 2016 to 2022.
Duterte's arrest on March 11, 2025, followed the issuance of an ICC warrant accusing him of crimes against humanity related to his administration's controversial war on drugs back in the day.

He was detained at NAIA upon returning from a trip to Hong Kong, with a video of his partner, Honeylet Avanceña trying to prevent the former president from being taken into custody as well.
Before he boarded a chartered flight bound for the Netherlands, his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte released an official statement regarding the arrest of her father on her social media page.
"Today, our own government has surrendered a Filipino citizen—even a former President at that—to foreign powers. This is a blatant affront to our sovereignty and an insult to every Filipino who believes in our nation's independence," the Vice President wrote on her official statement online.
According to VP Sara, her father is being 'forcibly taken' after his arrest, "As I write this, he is being forcibly taken to The Hague tonight. This is not justice—this is oppression and persecution."

Rodrigo Duterte is a Filipino politician who served as the 16th President of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022. Before his presidency, he was the long-time mayor of Davao City, where he gained a reputation for his tough stance on crime. After leaving office in 2022, Duterte continued to be an influential figure in politics. His daughter, Sara Duterte, became Vice President in 2022 under President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Meanwhile, Senator Imee Marcos has issued her statement about the recent arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte. In what seemed to be a press conference shared by ANC 24/7 on their YouTube channel, Senator Marcos showed sympathy to the former president. It can be recalled that FPRRD was arrested after a warrant of arrest was released by ICC against Duterte for crimes against humanity.
