It can be recalled that the House of Representatives on Wednesday, February 5 impeached Vice President Sara Duterte, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Several government officials in the Philippines have faced impeachment, a process where the House of Representatives files charges and the Senate conducts a trial.

President Joseph Estrada was impeached in 2000 for corruption, but his trial was disrupted, leading to his removal through the EDSA II Revolution.

In 2011, Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez resigned before her trial, while Chief Justice Renato Corona was found guilty and removed for failing to disclose his assets.

In 2017, Commission on Elections Chairman Andres Bautista also resigned before his trial due to allegations of unexplained wealth.

Among those impeached, only Renato Corona was fully removed through the process, as others either resigned or had their cases interrupted.

In a previous report by KAMI, Vice President Sara Duterte has been impeached by the House of Representatives on Wednesday. A total of 215 House members have endorsed the fourth impeachment complaint. This came nearly two months since three impeachment complaints were lodged against Duterte at the lower chamber. The complaint against Duterte is now set to be transmitted to the Senate.

In another viral news report prior to this about her, VP Sara Duterte could face an impeachment process if the impeachment complaint filed against her prospers. Just today, a coalition of different organizations filed an impeachment complaint against VP Sara. These organizations include Akbayan, Mamamayang Liberal, Magdalo, some members of the Catholic Church and student leaders. If such complaint prospers and becomes successful, it could remove the vice president from her office.
