A local government employee in Isabela City, Basilan was killed while her husband was wounded after they were shot by unidentified attackers in Barangay Lanote on Thursday night, May 14, 2026, GMA reported.

The said the couple was on their way home from work when the incident happened in a rural area of the barangay.

According to a report by Efren Mamac on GMA Regional TV News on Friday, the victim was a 48-year-old administrative assistant assigned to the City Accounting Office. She was traveling with her husband when the attack occurred, causing panic in the quiet farming community.

Initial police investigation revealed that the couple was suddenly ambushed by suspects riding a motorcycle. The assailants reportedly opened fire without warning before fleeing the scene immediately after the attack.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as investigators continue to gather evidence and witness statements.

Residents in the area rushed to assist the victims after hearing the gunshots. The couple was quickly brought to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, despite efforts by medical staff, the female victim was declared dead while undergoing treatment.

Her husband survived but is still confined in the hospital due to gunshot wounds.

Authorities have launched a deeper investigation to identify the suspects and determine what led to the violent incident. Police are currently reviewing possible leads and coordinating with local residents who may have witnessed the attack.
