A 70-year-old grandmother, Lola Rosa, proved that love knows no bounds, choosing to give up her life so that her husband, Lolo Aming, 72, could survive a fast-moving fire that gutted their home.

The elderly couple was resting when the heat of a developing inferno woke them at approximately 9:00 PM.

As the fire grew more aggressive, the couple reached a wall that they needed to climb to escape the structure.

It was at this critical juncture that Lola Rosa, realizing her physical strength was failing and that the fire was closing in, made a fateful decision.

She let go of Lolo Aming’s hand and pushed him toward safety. Her final words, "Luwasa imo kaugalingon" (Save yourself), echoed through the crackling of the flames as she stayed behind.

Lolo Aming, who sustained burns on his hands and back, could only watch in despair as he reached safety, unable to go back for his wife.

Once the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) controlled the blaze, the search led to the discovery of Lola Rosa’s remains inside the house.

The sight left Lolo Aming in inconsolable tears, haunted by the final act of love that saved his life at the cost of her own.

The fire destroyed a total of four houses in the neighborhood. Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion, which many believe originated from a butane canister, suspected to be the cause of the disaster.

This tragic event has left the community of Bacolod in deep mourning, but also in awe of the couple’s devotion.

For those who knew them, Lola Rosa’s ultimate sacrifice remains a powerful testament to a lifetime of loyalty, a love that preferred to face the end alone rather than witness the suffering of its partner.

As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, the story of Lola Rosa and Lolo Aming stands as a somber yet beautiful reminder of the lengths one will go to protect the person they love the most.
