A 29-year-old man lost his life after he was shot while trying to stop a fight among teenagers in Antipolo, Rizal. The incident took place in Barangay San Jose on the evening of March 17, 2026.

According to reports from GMA Integrated News, the brawl involved several youths and was believed to have started due to a lovers' quarrel, as stated by the barangay chief tanod.

Video footage showed the chaos among the teenagers, but the actual shooting was not captured on CCTV. A witness, who went by the alias "May," described what happened. The group was seen punching each other, and they were ganging up on one boy, estimated to be 15 to 16 years old. The victim approached to intervene and break it up. He got outnumbered at first. When he came back, a gunshot rang out, and he fell.

The witness noted that the scene was already too chaotic by then, so no one clearly saw who pulled the trigger.

Later that night, police arrested five individuals connected to the fight. The group included some minors and a 20-year-old man. Authorities have not recovered the gun used in the crime. Initial investigation shows that the shooter was not among those taken into custody.

The arrested 20-year-old refused to give a statement, and police have not released further comments as the probe continues.

The mother of the victim appealed for justice in a statement. She urged the gunman to surrender and show mercy, saying she hopes the person who shot her son gets caught soon.

The victim was a tricycle driver, according to follow-up reports.

Police continue to search for the shooter and gather more evidence from witnesses and possible leads in the community. The barangay and local authorities are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
