"Kinakantahan na ng mga estudyante ang kasama nilang may kaarawan nang mangyari ang insidente," says Police Captain Eric Dela Cruz, commander of the Dagupan City Police Station 2.

All 11 victims sustained burn injuries and were immediately brought to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of the latest update, eight of the students remain admitted while recovering from their wounds.

Authorities said two of those still confined suffered more severe injuries and may require surgical procedures.

Meanwhile, restaurant staff said the explosion happened so quickly that people inside the establishment were caught off guard.

"Biglaan ang pangyayari at nakita kong nagtatakbuhan na ang mga tao dahil sa nangyaring pagsabog," says Romel Tumbaga, a staff member of the restaurant.

Tumbaga also noted that it was the first time such an incident had occurred at their establishment. He added that their equipment, including the portable stoves used for cooking at tables, is regularly inspected and cleaned.

Police said the restaurant management has already initiated discussions with the families of the injured students as the investigation continues.

In a related development, the Bacoor Component City Police have identified the man seen in a viral video trying to open a vehicle as Joel Viola Matados, a resident of General Trias who reportedly suffers from a medical condition. His family said he had left their home earlier that day and appeared disoriented when the incident occurred. Motorist Lorie Sy recounted the alarming encounter, saying, “I stayed locked inside my car while he repeatedly pulled on my door handle in the middle of traffic.” Authorities are now asking the public to report any information about Matados’ whereabouts so he can be located and given proper medical attention. Police are also coordinating with local health officials to make sure he receives the necessary care once he is found.

Meanwhile, operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) CALABARZON rescued 10 individuals from an alleged abusive situation at a resort in Laguna on February 19, 2026, after conducting weeks of surveillance. He is currently being held without bail and is facing several charges under the Anti-Traffi*cking in Persons Act and the Cybercrime Prevention Act. Authorities stressed that the operation underscores the importance of continued vigilance from both law enforcement and the public in protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring those responsible are held accountable.
