Local police identified the victims as a 33-year-old female business owner and a 44-year-old male rescue officer.
According to family statements, the businesswoman had left her home earlier that day with the intent of finalizing the sale of an apartment building valued at approximately ₱18 million.
Her companion, a close family friend, had reportedly agreed to drive and accompany her to ensure her safety during the high-stakes deal.

The victims’ families are reeling from the loss, especially as the transaction was meant to be a celebratory milestone.
"Birthday po ng pamangkin ko ngayon kaya desidido talaga na ma-close deal ng kapatid ko yung transaksiyon," the victim's brother shared in a local interview.
He added that the rescue officer "just happened to be there" out of a sense of loyalty and brotherhood, making his involvement in the incident particularly heartbreaking for both families.
Initial forensic findings indicate that both victims sustained gunshot wounds before the vehicle was set ablaze.
Investigators believe the perpetrators abandoned the car in the remote area of Sinasajan to hide evidence of the crime.
PCapt. Vincent Taylor, officer-in-charge of the Peñaranda Municipal Police Station, confirmed that a financial motive is currently the strongest lead.
Surveillance and witness accounts suggest that two individuals, posing as buyers, may have boarded the victims' vehicle shortly before the incident occurred.
"May initial motive po tayo na regarding po sa pera. However ibe-verify po natin after makuha yung suspects," Taylor stated.
While the identities of the suspects have been established, authorities have withheld their names pending the results of a hot pursuit operation.
The Peñaranda police have vowed not to rest until justice is served, with the suspects expected to face multiple murder charges.
Meanwhile, the victims' kin have issued a plea for the perpetrators to surrender, calling the act a "soulless" crime that has left two families devastated.
In other news, a medical emergency turned fatal for a 42-year-old motorist in Cebu City, triggering a high-impact collision on a major thoroughfare. Two individuals traveling on a motorcycle survived a harrowing ordeal after their bike was hit from behind, leaving them trapped under the weight of the car. In a display of collective courage, traffic officers and ordinary citizens banded together to physically hoist the vehicle and free the pinned rider. While the car driver was later pronounced dead at a medical facility, the couple on the motorcycle fortunately survived the crash and have attained a stable condition.
Still in other news, law enforcement successfully tracked down and detained a 59-year-old man inside a condominium unit after a shooting incident near a courthouse claimed two lives. The suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, citing a toxic history of neighborhood arguments regarding noise and personal mockery as his breaking point. Records check revealed that the shooter was a fugitive who had been avoiding a judicial sentence since 2024, linked to a prior criminal conviction from over a decade ago. The case has sparked a formal inquiry into potential lapses in the regulatory system, specifically how an individual with an active warrant was able to maintain legal gun ownership.
