However, what was meant to be a routine errand quickly escalated into a high-tension argument between the two men.
Witnesses at the scene described a sudden escalation of emotions. As the verbal altercation reached its peak, the 30-year-old suspect allegedly produced a firearm and discharged it at Jayson.
The victim was unable to recover from the injuries sustained and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.
Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly fled the establishment on foot, heading toward the direction of Barangay Gulang-Gulang.
PCPT Philipp Hernandez, the chief investigator of the Lucena City Police Station, noted that witnesses observed the suspect appearing highly agitated and distressed immediately after the event.
Investigators are currently leaning toward "crime of passion" or revenge as the primary motive. Data gathered from digital communications recovered by the police suggest that the suspect was struggling significantly with the end of their previous relationship.
The messages reportedly indicated a level of emotional distress regarding Jayson’s decision to move on.
Law enforcement agencies are currently conducting extensive backtracking operations. They are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from various points along the suspected escape route to pinpoint the perpetrator's current location.
